The City of Lynn Haven is hosting two events to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11. The first event is a Remembrance Ceremony being held on Saturday, September 10th, at 9AM at Sharon Sheffield Park, located at 901 Ohio Avenue Lynn Haven, FL. Residents are welcome to come and hear remarks from City Manager Vickie Gainer, Police Chief Ricky Ramie, and Fire Chief John DeLonjay in addition to a prayer by Commissioner Brandon Aldridge. A. Crawford Mosley High School’s MCJROTC is presenting the colors with a performance of the national anthem by Mari Harper. In addition, there will be a First Responders Remembrance Drive and a moment of silence at exactly 9:28AM followed by a Taps performance by Daniel McNeill of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. The city is providing a limited number of chairs on the lawn, but attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the ceremony.
On Sunday, September 11th, at 10AM the Lynn Haven Fire and Police departments are hosting a 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk. The 5K will begin on the Leslie Porter Park side of the Fred Strickland Memorial Bridge (Old Bailey Bridge), located at 200 Michigan Avenue Lynn Haven, FL. It is free to participate, however, donations for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) are welcome. Firefighter/EMT Craig Ingram came up with the idea to host a 5K that everyone can join in on. He states that “we all made a promise to #NeverForget, so we need to keep our promise by making the world a better place in remembrance of those lost and injured on 9/11, and the many who rose in service in response to the attacks. I became a firefighter because of 9/11 after watching a documentary depicting all the real-life superheroes who ran toward the buildings. They were real heroes, heroes we cannot forget, and heroes that our children need to know about. So, we are holding this event for the workers in the World Trade Center and for the first responders who charged in to save them. For the military and civilian personnel in the Pentagon. For the innocent passengers of those four doomed flights. We remember. We honor. We pay tribute, and most importantly we never forget.” Everyone is welcome to come out and join first responders honoring the fallen.
