Gulf Coast State College recently established the Nursing Division in addition to its Health Sciences Division to better respond to community healthcare needs and growth of the College’s nursing programs.
The Nursing Division includes all GCSC nursing programs, including Practical Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with programs located on the Panama City and Gulf Franklin campuses.
The Health Sciences Division includes all GCSC health science programs that result in a specialization outside of the nursing field, including Dental Hygiene and Assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography, Respiratory Care, Sonography, Surgical First Assistant, and Surgical Services.
With the new division comes a new division chair, and the College welcomed Dr. Keri Matheus to pursue the role of the Nursing Division Chair.
“The College is excited to welcome Dr. Matheus as our new Nursing Division Chair,” said Dr. Holly Kuehner, GCSC Vice President of Academic Affairs. “She brings many years of nursing experience and is a long-standing faculty member in our nursing programs. We are excited to see her take on this new role as we navigate the reorganization of our health sciences programs to better serve our students.”
Dr. Matheus is originally from Mississippi and has been a nurse for 27 years. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1995 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation, she worked for over seven years as an RN in labor and delivery.
