City of Panama City Beach issued the following announcement on March 3.
March is Bike month and we're celebrating by announcing several new bike racks on the beach.
What better way to celebrate than to grab your bike, take in some fresh air and enjoy the warmer weather? Invite friends or family to take a leisurely bike ride with you to experience Florida’s sunshine and appreciate the springtime blooms.
Hit the Panama City Beach Conservation Park, where there are numerous trails and routes ranging from 1.7 miles to 11.2 miles. The Gayle's Trails system runs from the Conservation Park area east along Philip Griffitts Sr. Parkway. The trail system also includes:
- 5 miles of trails up State Road 79 across the West Bay Bridge.
- 3.5 miles of trails at Frank Brown Park
- 1.5 miles of trails at Aaron Bessant Park in Pier Park
- Connection to nearly 30 miles of trails at the Panama City Beach Conservation Park
The City has also made it easier to bike to the beach. With the installation of several beach bike racks, we encourage locals and visitors to bike it to the beach! The City has installed seven bike racks at public beach accesses 26, 34, 45, 47, 58, 65 and 76A for easy access to the beach for bicyclists. The one pictured above is by the Russell-Fields City Pier. The bike racks can accommodate between two and six bikes each. Click here for a map of all beach access points.
We would like to remind everyone to please lock your bike in the rack.
Biking instead of driving not only helps our environment but also our mental and physical wellbeing. If it’s feasible, try to dedicate some days to bike to work or bike to school with your children. Even if it’s not possible to do it every day, try to reserve a day or two each week to ride with your child to and from school instead of driving in the car and sitting in the car pick-up line. Not only is it good for everyone’s health, these stolen moments together are invaluable.
As construction continues on the Front Beach Road Community Redevelopment Area (CRA), bike and tram lanes are being installed, along with sidewalks and new lighting.
