Bay County Chamber of Commerce: City of Lynn Haven Celebrates Its’ Third Annual Black History Month of Activities

Bay County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on January 31.

The City of Lynn Haven will celebrate a month-long scheduled of activities for this year’s Black History Month. On Friday, February 11, 2022, the City of Lynn Haven will celebrate week two by hosting a double feature of “Movies in the Park.” The first show will begin at 6:00 PM with the PBS Documentary “A Class Divided,” immediately followed by the feature film, MLK/FBI: Directed by Sam Pollard.

Finally, on February 22, the City of Lynn Haven will end its month of festivities with a reception to celebrate the Black History theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” through a gallery of art exhibits submitted by local schools’ and booths from local African American organizations set up in the Senior Activity Club located at 905 Pennsylvania Avenue. Doors will open at 10:00 AM to view the gallery, and

artwork winners will be announced and recognized promptly at 4:00 PM.

Following Lynn Haven City officials’ remarks, special guest, United States Air Force Colonel Nikki M. Mitchell will be speaking. Colonel Mitchell is a Lynn Haven native and the first African American female Colonel in the North Carolina Air National Guard and the eleventh African American female to be named colonel.

City Manager Vickie Gainer commented, “We are honored that we can continue to recognize the accomplishments of so many African American men and women who have contributed to the growth, health and wellness of this country and our community. I look forward to seeing the talent of our youth displayed right here in Lynn Haven and hearing from Colonel Mitchell.”

The Lynn Haven Commission Meeting will follow at 5:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to wear masks, social distance, take photos with their artwork and enjoy refreshments until the artwork winners are announced prior to the commission meeting. The amount of attendees inside the building at one time will be limited.
