Bay County Chamber of Commerce: Panama City Publishing Company Museum Annual Winter Exhibit

St a village

Bay County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on December 7.

The Publishing Museum’s annual winter exhibit, Holiday Junction, returns to the museum for December and January! The miniature “N” scale recreation of St. Andrews as it was 100 years ago, includes replicas of the buildings in that time and the railroad. The gallery wall exhibit will feature George West’s personal railroad pass collection. The passes date from 1876 to 1913, and include several railroads such as Sioux City & Pacific, the Chicago & Northwestern, the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley, the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste Marie, the Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay, and many more railroads.

George West had recruited Georgia railroad owner A. B. Steele to construct the 64 miles of rail line to Harrison, which Steele renamed Panama City. A spur to the Ice and Power Plant at Frankford Avenue was added, as well as a spur into St. Andrews to a depot at Bayview Avenue and West 11th Court in 1915. For 5 years the spur brought service to St. Andrews for tourists, locals, the commercial fishing industry, freight, and the mail.

Enjoy the miniature railroad village through January 2022.

December Museum hours:  Tuesday – Thursday; 1-5:30 PM; Friday 1-7 PM; and Saturday 9 AM – 1 PM.

January Museum hours. Tuesday-Friday; 1-5:30 PM and Saturday 9 AM-1 PM.
