Panama City Beach issued the following announcement on October 25.
Every 10 years, the Florida Constitution requires Bay County to revise its five commission districts based on the most recent census results. Although all commissioners are elected at-large, state law requires that they reside in separate districts. Each district is required to be as equal in population as possible based on the census results.
The Bay County Supervisor of Elections and the county’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS), along with the Bay County Attorney’s Office, developed a proposed district map that meets the constitutional requirements. Residents may view this interactive map on the county’s website and enter their address to determine their proposed district. View the current district map here.
“The 2020 census revealed that Bay County’s populace has moved around quite significantly, and with that in mind, we worked very hard to ensure that the new map would equitably represent the people,” Bay County Attorney Don Banks said. “County commissioners are elected at-large, meaning they serve the constituents of Bay County regardless of the district in which they live.”
The commission will consider the new map on Nov. 2. The proposed new map is pictured above.
