City of Lynn Haven: Davis Lake Drawdown

Document

City of Lynn Haven issued the following announcement on October 13.

Upon recommendation from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC),  Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management (DFFM) in cooperation with the FWC Invasive Plant Management (IPM) section, Northwest Region a drawdown of Davis Lake has been recommended to the City of Lynn Haven. The duration of the drawdown should last through the winter months, beginning the first week of November and closing the water controls structure valve the first week of March 2022.

The purpose of the drawdown would be to consolidate and compact organic sediments. The drying and oxidation of these sediments will reduce excessive nutrients.  Further, a winter drawdown will aid in the control of aquatic plant communities by exposing them to winter temperatures and by desiccation.  Water level fluctuation is potentially the most effective management tool for small impoundments.
