City of Panama City Beach: City applies for permits for soil borings related to outfall project

637656566029820467

City of Panama City Beach issued the following announcement on August 27.

The City of Panama City Beach has applied to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a General Permit to perform soil borings in and adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. These soil borings will be taken from a barge with a drill rig on it. The results of the soil bores will help facilitate the design of an offshore outfall into the Gulf which will combine and replace existing beachfront stormwater outfalls and improve the surface drainage in the watershed.

The proposed offshore outfall is to be located approximately 1,500 linear feet offshore in the Gulf of Mexico adjacent to the seaward end of Front Beach Road, and approximately 200 linear feet east of Lullwater Drive in the City of Panama City Beach. Weather permitting, the barge should be in place by the end of September.
