City of Panama Beach issued the following announcement on August 5.
Emerald Coast First Responders Association, the 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that hosts the Panama City Beach 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb, is proud to announce a new endowed scholarship for First Responders.
In keeping with the association's core mission of supporting local first responders, we created an endowed scholarship to be available to any citizen that wishes to become a first responder (Fire Rescue, EMS or Law Enforcement) or any currently employed first responder that wishes to take academic classes. This is a supplemental scholarship and being that it is endowed, it will be available every year from here on out.
Sponsored by a gift from the Emerald Coast First Responders Association, applicants must complete the Foundation’s general scholarship application to qualify. Preference will be given to students attending Gulf Coast State College who will be participants in a first responder program and to students attending GCSC who currently are employed as a first responder who will be participating in academic classes. Selection will be made by the donor or a donor representative. Award amounts are determined by the Foundation Board of Directors.
If you know of any citizen that wishes to become a first responder or if you know of anyone in a police, fire or EMS agency that is taking or planning to take academic classes at Gulf Coast State College, please inform them of this new scholarship and have them apply for the scholarship on the Gulf Coast State College Foundation website here.
The core mission of the PCB 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb and Emerald Coast First Responders Association is to take care of our local first responders.
"In the past we have assisted local first responders with donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas right after Hurricane Michael, assisted with medical bills of children of first responders with chronic illnesses or injuries, assisted in the purchase of a specialty wheelchair for a first responder, and purchased ballistic vests, pet oxygen masks, and pet first aid kits for local law enforcement K9s," said Emerald Coast First Responders Association President Terry Parris.
"We feel that the creation of this scholarship will help every agency by assisting more people in becoming a first responder and will help develop current and future leaders by furthering their knowledge and education."
